It’s CTE Month at New Haven High School!
Our students are proving that CTE works.
DECA District Winners – January 10 (see attached photos)
HOSA District Winners – January 31 (photos in our next post)
These wins are the result of students taking Career & Technical Education classes that build real-world skills, confidence, and leadership.
Michigan data proves it: Students who complete CTE programs graduate at higher rates than their peers and are far more likely to be college- and career-ready after high school
CTE isn’t just an elective, it’s a launchpad for success.
If you want to compete, lead, and win, take a CTE class.
Happy CTE Month, Rockets!

Students in Mr. Davis' classes are learning about genetics in biology and are doing this by breeding fruit flies. Some flies are genetically normal or "wild-type" and others are mutated to have no wings or "apterous". Flies with different genes are bred together to determine which gene is dominant and which is recessive. Students anesthetized and sorted flies with different genes into tubes to observe behavior and how these genes are passed down in fruit flies. In laboratories today flies like these are used to study cancer, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and more. The 2017 Nobel prize in physiology or medicine was even awarded to a group of researchers for their work with fruit flies in uncovering some mechanisms behind sleep patterns in humans.
